Mount Carmel East opened in 1972 to serve the needs of the rapidly growing population in eastern central Ohio, and like the communities it serves the campus continues to grow. This emergency department serves more than 90,000 patients each year.
Mount Carmel East's campus features a Heart Center with stent-capable cath labs, an electrophysiology lab, a cardiovascular neuro services center, an eight-bed post-surgery ICU, an 18-bed coronary care unit and a 30-bed step-down unit. The Maternity Center at Mount Carmel East includes 12 labor and delivery rooms, two Cesarean operating rooms, seven antepartum rooms, 40 obstetric beds and a 15-bed Level III special care nursery.
These dedicated centers are just part of the attraction of Mount Carmel East. The hospital also features 18 operating rooms, 2 open-heart operating rooms, endoscopy lab, multiple intensive care units (MICU, SICU and CCU), neuroscience unit with epilepsy monitoring beds and a dedicated observation unit. And special features like the Bruce E. Seigel Center for Health Education bring even more resources to the appealing East campus.
Some knee replacement surgeries from Mount Carmel East are broadcast live to students and visitors at Ohio's Center of Science and Industry.
