Located just west of downtown Columbus in Franklinton, Mount Carmel West was founded in 1886 and has grown into a full-service acute care hospital with a Level II trauma center featuring 14 operating rooms. The campus also features a urology suite, a state-of-the art endoscopy lab and physiology room, multiple intensive care units (Surgical ICE, Medical-Cardiac ICU, Open Heart Recovery Unit and Neuro ICU) and a Level III special care nursery. The emergency department sees over 60,000 visits per year, has one of the city's lowest diversion rates and maintains a separate area to treat non-emergency cases.
The campus has ample parking available for residents. The cafeteria is open for meals or grab-and-go services for most of the day, and the campus also features Charlie's Java Jolt, a Tim Horton's and Sbarro Pizza. Now only is campus living is available on the Mount Carmel West campus, but you'll also have access to the Center for Innovative Learning and the Mount Carmel Health Sciences Library and its over 46 million books and other library materials.
At its heart, Mount Carmel West is a teaching facility and is home to the Mount Carmel College of Nursing and out graduate medicine residency training programs. In 2018, inpatient services will be relocated to Grove City and Mount Carmel West will be transformed into a vibrant health and educational campus featuring:
- Expanded Mount Carmel College of Nursing
- Outpatient services including chronic care clinics, primary care, imaging and lab services
- Healthy Living Center, offering many educational and support resources
- Full-service, 24-hour emergency department
