Operative experiences are wide-ranging, varying according to the needs of patients at the time that each resident is on service. Over the course of five years, a resident typically performs more than 1,100 operative procedures, including 200 major procedures during the fifth year. Residents are exposed to a wide variety of procedures, including a large number of laparoscopic procedures. Extensive and early first year operative experience is a hallmark of the program. The following charts show major procedure averages for our three Chief Residents as well an example of our early operative exposure for first year residents for 2016 to 2017:
