We at Mount Carmel are proud of our heritage and mission. For many decades, Mount Carmel Graduate Medical Education has been educating residents in a unique environment involving 3 different hospitals, each serving a distinct patient population. Mount Carmel West in downtown Columbus is our flagship training site. Residents at this facility provide care for a diverse population, including at-risk and underserved patients. Mount Carmel St. Ann’s provides our Family Medicine Residents with an unopposed learning environment where they provide the full spectrum of community-based medicine. Our Surgery and Internal Medicine Residents also rotate to Mount Carmel East where they work closely with specialists who serve a more suburban population. Because our residents rotate within a multitude of environments, we can provide them with a much broader clinical experience.
We currently have fully accredited residencies by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Orthopedics, Surgery, and Transitional Medicine. We are also involved in an integrated Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency with The Ohio State University. Medical students from The Ohio State University, Ohio University, and Wright State University medical schools have several of their clinical rotations at our Mount Carmel West. We are also in the process of building a Clinical Skills and Simulation Center for simulation training which will enhance our residents learning experience. In all of its facets, the learning environment of Mount Carmel is rich and inviting to individuals who are eager to learn the art of medicine.
Mount Carmel has a rich history of Graduate Medical Education that dates back decades with a mission to serve those who are less fortunate than others. This spirit and mission is alive and well today as we educate the physicians of tomorrow. As we like to say only “the few and the proud” are able and willing to train with us as we provide care to a diverse population in a unique learning environment.
