Recently, the Internal Medicine program held their second in a series of cooking classes with the residents and representatives from Local Matters. Local Matters is a recognized leader and community partner, working to increase key healthful food education and food access to combat food insecurity and diet-related diseases mainly in impoverished areas. Also recently, they held their first cooking class for patients. This was very well received and patients greatly benefited from free, healthy food as well as instruction on how to prepare it healthfully. Culinary Medicine is part of an initiative led by Dr. Lisa Hamilton to demonstrate to residents how to cook healthy so they can teach their patients the same cooking skills and knowledge.
